Sonam Morup joined LREDA in 2009 as a Technical Consultant for the hydropower sector. He is also Chief Executive Officer in the Leh Development Authority (since 2007). He was previously District Superintending Engineer for Leh District (2004-07) and Executive Engineer, Power and Works Department (1996-2004). He has more than 30 years’ experience in power engineering including the design, planning and construction of hydro (4MW) and micro-hydro projects throughout Ladakh. In 2006 he was awarded the Chief Minister’s Gold Medal (Jammu & Kashmir) for his work – the first engineer in the state to be awarded this honour. Sonam Morup graduated from the Regional Engineering College, Srinagar (BEng. (Hons), 1974), where he was also a Lecturer in 1974-75.
